Custom Vs Templates : Which is right for you?

Some people ask why I choose to sell both custom services and templated designs. "doesn't selling designs at a lower price contradict you charging premium prices for premium custom work?"

The answer really isn't that simple. I'd say that different people/businesses have different needs and different budgets. There are definitely pros and cons to both custom and templated designs. I am personally in the business of making sure your branding is on point, regardless of your budget.

So, how do you know what choice is right for you?

Let's dig a little deeper into the pros and cons of custom and templated design and maybe help you decide which is right for you.

Cost

Okay, so it goes without saying that a templated design is going to be much less expensive than a custom design. That is probably one of the main things that draws small businesses to templated items. There are some drawbacks to templated designs which we dive into in this post, so read on before making a decision friend!

However, if your budget is tight and you just don't have the coin to spend on a custom site, templated may be the right choice for you.

Brand Uniqueness

Our templated items give you the opportunity to completely customize them by changing content, colors, fonts, logos, and imagery to make a design completely your own. However if you do not plan on changing much, it is very possible that your designs will look very similar to other business also using our templates.

If you want to be entirely unique, custom would be the way to go. If you have a bit of creativity and don't mind your designs resembling other business out there you may be okay with templates.

Branding Cohesiveness

I will be the first to say, as a trained designer, cohesiveness is super important. Being cohesive and consistent is part of what helps you build your brand. If you choose templates, I urge you to make sure your brand is consistent throughout all of your marketing. Your business cards should match your website and your website should match your social posts etc. The cohesiveness of everything together is what makes your brand recognizable and trusted.

When you have a us design custom materials, we will be sure that your branding is consistent throughout everything we work on, alleviating that pressure from you.

If you are confident in customizing templates to match your brand, then I say "go for it".

But, if you know that you may need a professional eye to be sure that your materials are all cohesive, then I say spring for the custom work. The end result will be worth it.

Time/Effort

Although our templates offer complete customization, that requires time and effort on your end. Do you have the time to dedicate to editing templates and making sure your colors, fonts, and designs match? Would you rather spend time to do it yourself or provide direction and have it done for you?

If you have the time to dedicate to customizing templates to match your brand then do it! But, if don't want to, or don't have time to dedicate to making sure your designs are clean and on brand, then I highly suggest going the custom route.
